Even if this term ‘porn’ makes everyone uncomfortable, but according to the Porn Industry, it is one of the most searched topics on Google. Statistics reveal that as much as 90% of the internet users of United Kingdom have turned off the porn filter from their browsers. This is just a small fraction of the entire scenario. Porn Industry is a huge industry and most of the leading websites offer some costly subscription. People despite of hitting the most clicks on these sites abstain from paying any subscriptions. This has been substantiated with increasing piracy in the said industry. But unlike other industries, Google is silent about supporting them to prevent privacy.
Recently the film and music industry approached Google with similar issue and Google had rendered its support to highlight legal ways to purchase contents. But when it came to the adult industry Google has not been equally supportive even though the industry people claim that porn industry is just like any other professional industry. According to a member of the adult industry Studios:
The adult industry is run like any other professional industry; we pay taxes, create jobs and contribute to the economy. How many times a day is the word ‘porn’ typed into the Google search interface? Mainstream corporations like Google continue to discriminate against the adult industry despite the world being genuinely interested in seeking out pornography.
The adult industry has been fighting for long to stop piracy and even started a #PayForYourPorn campaign earlier this year but all these have not been fecund enough for the industry. The main reason is that the society is still bound by social stigma.
Why should they bother? Trying to censor the content on the internet and preventing people finding it is virtually impossible. People will always find a way around these things. ISP’s have blocked popular torrent sites for example. Mirrors to these sites appeared almost instantly.
Its a huge profit market. Every one feed them from Porn Industry market. So i don’t think this could be stopped.
Recent Google algorithm update filtered out websites dealing with pirate
content so I think Google is trying to fight piracy in general and not
only in specific niche
I am more worried about terrorists, religious fundamentalists and hate mongers freely using the internet freely for their nefarious purposes of poisoning the young minds. Porn is relatively harmless.
