Famous fast food-chain Domino’s Pizza have unveiled its first pizza delivery robot named DRU. DRU is the acronym for Domino’s Robotic Unit and the robotic unit is launching in Australia and New Zealand. DRU will interact with customers and please them by delivering pizzas with maximum perfection. The bot will bear an amicable personality that will entice the customers.
DRU is a four wheeled robotic unit, that is battery fed and equipped with several sensors. The sensors are designed such that the bot can deliver pizza within 20 Km radius from a Domino’s pizza store. The device will be 1 meter high and can accommodate 10 pizzas at a time. How will DRU conduct successful deliveries of pizzas? Domino’s will give customers a unique code when they’ll place the order. On arrival of the delivery bot, customers will have to enter the code on the keypad to unlock the compartment containing the pizza ordered by them.
“The DRU prototype is only the first step in our research and development as we continue to develop a range of innovations set to revolutionize the entire pizza ordering experience.” Domino’s Pizza New Zealand’s general manager Scott Bush said, “The DRU is cheeky and endearing and we are confident that one day he will become an integral part of the Domino’s family. He’s a road to the future and one that we are very excited to be exploring together.”
However, many people are not happy with DRU’s inception as they feel the robot replacement will succumb a lot of job requirements and contribute to increasing unemployment. What’s your take on DRU?
